Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some common questions we get asked, we have tried to answer them, for any other questions feel free to contact us and ask away, we don’t bite.

Why should we go to the demos?
The more people who turn out the better, if Westminster City Council see numbers rising at the demo’s then it will keep them on their toes, if they see numbers falling then they will claim support is fading and we are no longer worthy of consideration – so come along and bring all your family, friends and neighbours (every body needs good neighbours, just a little understanding…sorry, got carried away there)

Donations and the legal fund

What if we do not reach the target of £50,000?
We will still take the case the best we can however if there is an inability to instruct level of lawyer required a refund of all donations will take place minus fees incurred.

If we lose the case?
Warren Djanogly will incur adverse costs order, so no additional cost to you.

If we win the case what will happen?
Return of all donations (Circa 80%) to donator or to chosen charity or Air Ambulance if not specified. This is of course dependent on the court awarding costs in our favour.

What is the progress of the legal challenge so far?
Oliver Mishcon to provide Barristers Advice.

Where is my Fighting Fund donation going to?
All monies are being held by our solicitor/lawyer, NONE of the money is going to an individuals bank account, this is all above board and legal.

Trade support scheme

What is the Trader Scheme all about?
In order to raise the £50,000 needed, we have approached the motorcycle trade for support. Those who have donated to the fighting fund are listed on the web site and we encourage you to support the traders who have supported us! A running total of donations to date from the trade is available on the left of this page.

Is there a Black List of traders who didn’t donate?
There is no Black List. Obviously we know who has been approached and who declined, but this is only being used to avoid approaching the same traders more than once. While we would love all traders to donate to the fund and help us in this legal case, we understand that not everyone will, some may have a cash flow problem, some may prefer not to upset WCC, others may not be interested. However, we will publish the names of companies that do support our campaign and encourage you to support those traders that support us

Other FAQ’s

Councils are always dreaming up new ways to tax us. At the end of the day all these campaigns and consultations just get ignored don’t they. Why will this campaign be any different?
Councils often do dream up new ways to tax us and some councils try their hardest to ignore, belittle, crush or marginalize people who oppose them.

The reason this campaign will be different is because Powered Two Wheeler users, unlike so many other demographic groups, are more willing to stand up for themselves against such onslaughts. Over the years motorcyclists have fought, and won, on many issues, including proposed power limits, compulsory plastic leg protectors for all bikes and charges for toll bridge crossings, plus many more. Few protest groups can match motorcyclists’ success rate in opposing legislators’ attempts to mess with riding. One year into the campaign and support is growing, not dwindling.

This campaign will be different because of the tenacity and persistence of the motorcycling community. We simply will not be beaten into submission – something Westminster City Council are beginning to understand only too well.

What’s so bad about charging motorcycles to park when cars have to pay?
Rather than asking why shouldn’t bikes pay, ask yourself why should cars pay?

Cars should pay because:

  • They pollute,
  • They congest,
  • They take up a large amount of road or kerb space,
  • They cause significant wear and tear to road surfaces,
  • They demand large-scale and complex parking infrastructures to accommodate them,
  • Their use needs to be controlled and/or discouraged.

Motorcycles/Scooters however:

  • Do not pollute as much as cars,
  • Do not congest at all,
  • Do not take up large amounts of road or kerb space,
  • Do not cause wear and tear to road surfaces,
  • Do not require large-scale and complex parking infrastructures to accommodate them,
  • Their use needs to be encouraged and promoted as an alternative to both cars and the already overburdened public transport system.

    Who is actually inforcing this?

Do we need to register before showing up for the long way round demo?

Also, any update on the t-shirts etc that were talked about being printed?

hello, very best wishes in all your efforts… is it still possible to purchase stickers? MAG/RAV stickers in place on my van but I’d like the opportunity to display NTBPT in the same spirit. I’d be most grateful for any help, thank you
